Peixoto Coffee Roasters - Chandler, Arizona
This Friday, I am back in a familiar (and happy space). Sitting at a window bar at my favorite coffee shop, enjoying an espresso tonic. I used to hang out here nearly every Saturday morning, writing about public education. That was when blogging was popular, X was Twitter, and there still seemed to be a modicum of common sense and decency in the world. My blog, molehills out of mountains, actually had a decent following and was a great tool for interacting with other educators. You can check out the remnants, but it has not been updated in years. Probably time to disable it.
No pining about public education, today. Just a few thoughts as I wrap up my week.
I've added a blog(post)roll to my site. In the past I would have shared posts on social media, but until I find a platform to my liking (common sense and decency), I'll just add them to my blog(post)roll. Not that this will generate much traffic for those I share, but it's a nod. Why a blog(post)roll instead of a blogroll? Well, unless I personally know someone, I'd rather not endorse everything they write, but I am certainly behind sharing individual posts that I find inspiring, encouraging, and thoughtful!
I did a lot of cooking this week (I am NOT a cook). Mushroom toast, steak, lettuce wraps, and turkey burgers. I also made peach salsa as a side dish. It turned out great! Just diced peaches, onion, red bell pepper, a jalapeno, sea salt, and lime juice. Fresh, diced tomatoes would also be a nice addition, but my wife can't stomach them. I've been trying to see how many ways I can use peaches. My brother, who lives in my hometown in Kansas, runs a Christmas Tree Farm and Orchard. He has over 400 peach trees and this summer I helped pick THOUSANDS of pounds of peaches. It was exhausting, but they are honestly the best peaches you will ever eat. We joked about how many different ways you can use peaches, so I am trying to figure that out.
Now that I'm retired (former educator and principal), I volunteer for a non-profit that operates in my former school community (Live Love). I help with administrative tasks, mentor and tutor high school students (some of my former kids), and I've been doing A LOT of landscaping. This week, I mowed a soccer field with a push mower and nearly suffered a heat stroke. Not my brightest moment. But the field looks great, for now.
It's been a good week for me...hopefully for you too!
Have a great weekend.
Cheers! 🍻
