I am a better person without my phone.

In fact, I would go so far as saying there is a negative correlation between the amount of time I spend on my phone and the likelihood you would want to be around me.

Last Saturday it was hot outside. I was bored and in a state of malaise. So, I picked up my phone. I used my browser to check a few news sites. Then I "surfed" over to X to see how "people" felt about current events. As if I couldn't predict. I spent an embarrassing amount of time scrolling.

Bleh.

Sometimes, when my four year old nephew is being naughty and knows he is in trouble, he goes for broke. Consequences are on the way, so what the hell? He does what he wants and there is no stopping him. Repercussions be damned.

That's where I was on Saturday. I had looked at the news. Perused X. It made me feel wretched, so I doubled down and repeated the cycle. What the hell? And again. And again. And again.

Bleh.

I was discouraged, grumpy, and unproductive. I was not good company.

On Sunday, I hardly touched my phone. It wasn't a commitment, I just didn't want a repeat of Saturday. No news. No social media. A few text messages, but that was it. Better.

I repeated the effort on Monday. And Tuesday. And again today. I felt good. I got things done. I felt less stressed and irritated. The less I used the phone, the less incessant my desire to pick it up.

I'm pretty sure I am a better person without my phone.
