where is home?

sunset Sunset on a dirt road, near my home.

Today, I feel like writing about home.

I have lived in Arizona for nearly half of my life, but I "grew up" in rural Kansas. For me, Kansas is home.

Fields of wheat, alfalfa, and corn.

The cold air and scent of pine trees on our family's Christmas tree farm.

Ponds stocked with bass, catfish and bluegill.

A town so small that it has only one grocery store, no fast food chains, and no Walmart (but, we do have a Dollar General).

The smell of fresh popcorn, in the high school gym, at a Friday evening basketball game.

Dirt roads so plentiful and isolated that on each visit I am able to travel somewhere I've never been.

A winter night sky, illuminated by seemingly every star in the universe.

Community. Going to fill the car up with gas and realizing it is likely you will see someone you know.

For me, home is a place of rest. It is slow. Quiet. Peaceful.

I am blessed.

Where is home for you?
