thoughts while mowing - wkly review 09.04
Today I mowed the soccer field at the "community center" where I volunteer. With a push mower. 🥵 As a kid, I spent a lot of time mowing on our family Christmas tree farm. I enjoy it (although a riding mower is better than a push mower). You can see your progress. And, it requires limited focus so there is plenty of time to think.
Today, while mowing, I reflected on the past week:
On Tuesday, I spoke to a good friend who is Haitian-American. He now lives in the United States, but when he was in Haiti I visited him regularly (Port-au-Prince). We discussed the recent revocation of temporary protective status for Haitians. This is truly a travesty. My friend was in Haiti just a few weeks ago (work travel) and the situation is horrific. He told me I would not recognize Port-au-Prince due to the violence and unrest. He stated that, "Perhaps we had not been grateful enough for what we had prior to 2022." 😲 If you have been to Haiti, or are familiar with conditions on the ground, that statement says a lot. Prayers to those in Haiti, as well as the diaspora. 🙏
I ran across a few posts that I've added to my blog(post)roll for this week. Two that really stood out to me: go with your gut feeling and Rediscovering my local library.
My cooking this week: baked gnocci caprese; a smoked salmon protein bowl with spinach, hard-boiled egg, mozarella, and veggies; and my favorite, Greek Lemon Chicken.👨🍳
Sigh. I'm frustrated with Google. They are intrusive. They rename bodies of water on a whim. And now, they are hassling me about storage. I've been a gmail user since it's inception, but I'd love to rethink my support. Let me know if you have suggestions for alternatives that work. I don't mind paying a bit, but would rather support a smaller, less obnoxious company. 😉
