signs of the times
Today, I'm wondering if campaign/political signs on street corners are a world-wide occurrence. I'm guessing it is widespread in the U.S., but do other countries allow people to plaster their name and cheesy slogans on placards that cover every available space at an intersection?
It feels like we spend a majority of the year subjected to a subliminal effort to get voters to recognize a name on their ballot.
"Hmm. I don't know anything about any of these candidates, but I do recognize that name from the giant piece of corrugated plastic that obstructed my view at Tenth and Lakeshore."
The slogans are as obnoxious as the signs themselves.
_______ (insert politician's name) will fix it.
Forgive me for being skeptical, but "it" doesn't seem very specific. And, I have zero confidence that (insert politician's name) will do much, if any, "fixing."
Will audit fraud.
I hope fraud is aware it is being audited. Maybe they meant that there will be audits to detect fraud?
And my personal favorite:
We the people are pissed! (imagine large, Declaration of Independence style lettering)
Who is "we"?
Are "we" angry, or drunk? Or both?
Unfortunately, this sentiment is likely accurate for almost anyone who is forced to think about politics for too long.
In summary. I'm tired of politics. Tired of politicians. And very tired of their campaign signs.
