root beer, robins, and re-runs
I'm spending a few days in Kansas, helping my brother on our family Christmas tree farm. The work is physically challenging (dragging, lifting, netting, stacking, and loading Christmas trees), but I finish the day "good tired." Not the same tiredness that comes from stress, busyness, and anxiety.
Here are a few things I've seen and experienced over the past few days.
- Robins holding out on a flight south to congregate around my Mom's birdbath
- Sweatshirt weather (unusually warm for November in Kansas, but beautiful for a Phoenix, Arizona resident)
- Basketball games in small gyms where the entire community shows up
- The smell of Concolor Fir
- Candy canes aplenty
- Ice cold root beer just out of the walk-in apple cooler
- Watching Hogan's Heroes, MASH, and Newhart re-runs with my parents (because they like them and don't have many television options)
- Pizza from Tiger Town (local) and Humble Pie (the best, but a thirty minute drive)
- A late afternoon spent fishing for bass and bluegill with my brother
Small things, but so much for which to be grateful.
