it's doughnut day!
Kosmo - Arizona, 2020
When the weather cooperates, I enjoy a morning on the patio, reading or writing. We had a little West Highland Terrier, Kosmo, who never missed the opportunity to be outdoors. I would enjoy coffee and cool weather. Kosmo would patrol the yard and bask in the sun.
We also shared a doughnut. I don't remember how, or when, it started, but once a week (usually Sunday), Kosmo and I would split a Hostess Blueberry Jumbo Donette (that's an actual thing). One bite for me. One bite for Kosmo. And so on, until it was gone. It became a tradition. Doughnut day.
Kosmo is no longer with us, but the tradition continues. Nearly every Sunday morning, my wife picks up coffee and a blueberry doughnut (we've graduated to "shop" doughnuts). Our three dogs gather, excitedly, in the kitchen and enjoy one bite each, until it's gone.
