grant hill ruined my productivity
I had a plan to be productive today and sports cards messed it up.
My goal was to make a significant dent in decluttering and organizing our garage. I started with the best of intentions and the first thirty minutes went well. I went through a box of camping gear and was able to get rid of things that had obviously lost their value: a ten inch piece of rope (frayed on both ends), a paper towel roll with two remaining pieces, a pack of Ramen Noodles that had been punctured. No problem.
Then I pulled out a couple of boxes my Mom made me take from their house a couple years ago. They were filled with memorabilia, greeting cards, photos, old school assignments, and newspaper clippings. I had no problem jettisoning my senior research paper (An Overview of International Terrorism), or my US Politics 101 notebook. I set aside a news article about my Soap Box Derby experience, and a photo of my basketball team from my senior year.
Then I saw it. A flash of color in a clear plastic case. A basketball card. But, not just any basketball card -- a Grant Hill rookie card. This might be worth something. I did more looking and found more rookie cards: Jason Kid and Cal Ripken Jr.
Down the rabbit hole.
Forty-five minutes later I had established that I have a couple thousand sports cards. Most with little, if any value, but without any way of knowing without reviewing them one by one. Ugh.
Discouraged with my progress and decision fatigue, I did what any determined garage cleaner would do. I quit.
I'll try again tomorrow -- starting with hardware.
