digital crow and shiny tech
Lately, I've received a number of emails warning me that old "digital" accounts are in danger of being deleted. If you are more disciplined than I am, you might be thinking this is some kind of phishing scam. However, I believe most of these are legitimate, and the result of a past addiction to new technology.
With regard to digital tools, I used to be like a crow with shiny objects. If it caught my attention, and it was free for the taking, I was going to sign up. Email accounts. Cloud storage. Digital notebooks. Photography apps. Social media. Productivity (Yikes! I went down every productivity rabbit hole that existed).
I'd keep all these new accounts until I became bored, or overwhelmed, or the shine wore off. Then it was on to the next "latest and greatest" app or website. A responsible person, would have deleted the unwanted accounts.
Repeat. A responsible person.
But, not this digital crow. I just continued to collect and left the digital clutter out in the nether-reaches of the cyber universe. And now, I have a digital footprint that would put Sasquatch to shame 👣. Accounts (and passwords) I don't even know exist.
It makes me nervous.
It is past time to do some scrubbing of my digital presence (past and present). To use another analogy, I envision it will be a bit like untangling a fishing line. Slow and tedious, with a few spurts of success followed by agonizing knots of frustration.
Better safe than sorry.
